BIO
Susan is a Founding Partner and Vice Chairman at Gerivia Advocates LLP. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a Commissioner for Oaths and a Notary Public.
Her background and specialization are in International Law including drafting and reviewing legal and policy documents and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), developing training plans/schedules and delivering legal trainings.
Susan also has expertise in Procurement Law research, review of tender documents and drafting and review of procurement requests for review. Her expertise also includes drafting and/or review of conveyancing documents such as leases, charges and commercial agreements.
Susan has a passion for Corporate Governance issues and is a member of the Women on Boards Network. She has attended various Corporate Governance Trainings to get herself “Board Ready”.

Experience
As a Partner at Gerivia, Susan is involved in training, business development and developing the law firm manuals/Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Susan is also involved in Procurement Law research; review of tender documents and drafting and review of procurement requests for review. Her expertise also includes drafting and review of conveyancing documents such as leases, charges and commercial agreements.
As a Resettlement Expert (ICMC) at UNHCR RSC Nairobi, UNHCR Sudan, Uganda; Associate Eligibility Officer in Ethiopia and Resettlement Consultant in Kenya (2007-June 2019), Susan was tasked with; developing training materials and delivering trainings; drawing and reviewing UNHCR internal policy documents and templates; oversight through review of refugee assessments; as the SOPs focal point, she drafted and reviewed SOPs.
At UNHCR, Susan was also involved in conducting research on international & refugee law and giving legal opinions; conducting refugee interviews for resettlement and Refugee Status Determination (RSD) and drafting legal assessments; coordination with government refugee counterparts; organizing and facilitating regional meetings as part of a team.
In 2006, as an Intern & Research Assistant at ICJ-Kenya, Susan drafted, compiled and edited ICJ-Kenya publications and reports; organized and facilitated various training workshops on human rights, democracy and governance as part of a team.
In 2005 as a Pupil at Muthoga Gaturu & Company Advocates, she conducted legal research; drawing and review of legal documents (pleadings, contracts, conveyances); pre-trial preparations; court attendance and note taking. Susan was also part of a team that conducted the legal due diligence of Telkom Kenya prior to its privatisation as part of PKF Consortium.
Susan enjoys reading all things legal, personal development and money related. She unwinds best by being at home with family and friends, watching something engaging or playing with the kids, colouring being her favourite. She is also a writer for the Gerivia Advocates LLP Blog.
